The Institute of Medical Sciences is located on the University of Aberdeen's Foresterhill Health Campus, one of the largest medical campuses in Europe, providing excellent opportunities for discovery and translational biomedical research. Professor Mirela Delibegovic is a world-leading expert in diabetes physiology. Dr Nimesh Mody is a nationally recognised expert in diabetes cell signalling and biochemistry. Prof Delibegovic and Dr Mody have over 20 years of experience in diabetes research and recently collaborated with VAL in the development of diagnostic antibody tests for Covid 19.

A year into their KTP, the partnership was awarded the "Powerful Partnership" award at The Scottish Knowledge Exchange Awards 2025 by Interface. The award, sponsored by Skillfluence, recognised the partnership's ongoing collaboration, including three KTPs and related projects, which have "yielded world-first solutions, fostering global recognition, creating skilled talent, and driving economic and health advancements."

Prof Mirela Delibegovic

Prof Mirela Delibegovic

Regius Chair of Physiology

Prof. Mirela Delibegovic is an academic and entrepreneurial research leader in biomedical sciences, initiating and developing constructive collaborations leading to successful outcomes, including key publications, significant sustainable funding, and impactful translational discovery research. Experienced line manager, leader and mentor, she pioneers strategic professional development of academic and research staff, and is also elected chair of key University and grant-funding committees.

Dr Rodanthi Zindrili

Dr Rodanthi Zindrili

KTP Associate

Dr. Rodanthi Zindrili, is a KTP Associate developing serology tests for Type 1 Diabetes with EpitogenX-Vertebrate Antibodies Ltd and the University of Aberdeen’s Aberdeen Cardiovascular & Diabetes Research Centre. She has a master’s degree in Zoology, with focus on physiology and nutrition (University of Thessaly), and a PhD in Genomics (University of Aberdeen). Rodanthi is a post-doctoral researcher with the School of Medicine, Nutrition and Medical Sciences in the Aberdeen Cardiovascular and Diabetes Research Centre.
